Now that you can watch or listen to anything ever made online, there wouldn't seem to be much point of posting clips of obscure records out of my collection. But this part makes listening to them more fun for me, because I get to share! Now on with the first installment in the series: Railway Raver.
I'm not going to go into a long history of the artists (you can google their names if you'd like). I'm just going to throw up some clips for you to hear. i've kept them short (segments of whole songs) so the quality of sound can be higher, and so you will be enticed to go find the albums yourself.
This was one of the first records I aquired after i bought my dj setup around 1997 when I was 16. my mom (!!??!!) bought it for me at sonic groove in nyc (i gave her a list, of course). It was on my list because it was released by Rephlex Records, which is Aphex Twin's home base so to speak. Mind you, not everything on Rephlex is completely satisfying, but the albums that are COMPLETELY SATISFY. It's weird because this is music that was made to sound old but wasn't at the time. It is kind of a throwback to 1990-era UK acid house, but to my ears, it sounds way weirder and not nearly as hyper and annoying. I dunno, I never listened to much acid house because it kind of sucks and I was in 4th grade when it hit it's peak.
Railway Raver will always be obscure, but this album is definitely one of my all time favorites.
