MONOLITH

dare i say it?

ok....but this is heresy to the worst degree: monolith's "volume 1" on rephlex sounds just like the analord series, but better.

granted, rdj created the sound to begin with, and there are still new surprises to be found in that stack of 10 analord records (yeah, i'm missing one, i think).

this monolith thing is only 4 tracks, but still...it got that tik tik followed by that bump. it sounds like it was created using the same process (analogue synths, drum machines, and sequencers, for the most part) as the analords, too.

monolith posted some tracks on the (now defunct) mu message board a year ago or so, and they were tight. soon thereafter his name (on the board) turned orange, which means he's signed to the label, so who knows what's up those british bastards' sleeves. check this for a view into what mike paradinas is into these days.

i hope rephlex decides it deserves a vinyl release. this de-evolution into a net label seems contrary to their ethos.

you can preview it (very low quality) or buy it here

or be a little punk ass bitch and get it here

Autechre: Fact Mix 122

New and exclusive DJ mix by Autechre for FACT. There is no tracklist and Autechre has declined to comment on the mix (imagine that!). It's pretty good though, lots of Detroit hip-hop, weirdness (a bit of breakcore and...metal??) and really tight mixing. Better than their new album sounds in my opinion. Grab it HERE (available for 3 weeks only)

are they one on top of the other or side by side?

this explains a lot about why people who watch too much television are so demented.

sparse

Abstract Elements - Wrong Way 12"

the held-back minimalism on this one is amazingly heavy. i can't wait to hear this on vinyl.
